The history of technology in education

Hello Everyone!

September 23, 2017, second meeting of our Educational technology subject. The lesson yesterday was amazing because it exposed the the real truth on what the history of educational technology is. It is not about the high technology gadgets only it is about how education developed from B.C.E to A.D. through the use of technology.

The video below was presented to us by our professor Mrs. Angelica Olivar yesterday. Here's the summary of the dates and its content:

30,000 B.C.E. Cave Drawings
510 B.C.E. Phytagoras Academy
105 Paper Made in China
382 Manuscript Transcription
1450 Gutenburg Printing press
1600 Public Education
1700 Public Education (Blackboards, Chalkboard slates)
1800 Public Education (Books)
1910 Audiovisual age
1920 Audiovisual age (Radio)
1930 Audiovisual age (Film strip projector)
1940 Audiovisual age (Overhead projector)
1960 Information Age (Television)
1970 Information Age (VCR, VHS tape)
1980 Information Age (Audio tape)
1990 Computer Age
1991 Computer Age (First SMART Board interactive whiteboard)
1995 The Digital Age
2000 The Interactive Age (Smart Response LE, PE, XE, Laptop, Document Camera)

If you have watched the video educational technology is not just the advanced technology gadgets today, it's about how people manage to create and innovate technology on what is available in their environment. Just for example on 30,000 B.C.E. the humans usually live in cave, they have no proper education at that time, their way of communicating is through creating sounds based on what they usually heard in their surroundings, and in order for them to remember those is through illustrating it on the walls of the cave. And then later on academies were developed, into writings on paper made in china, into printing press developed and made in Germany, into introducing of Public education run by the government, into audiovisual age the development of radio, into information age wherein televisions where developed and used, into computer age to digital age, and now Interactive age wherein all people right can communicate in just a split of seconds (e.g., email, chat, video calls)

Nowadays everything is instant, you can easily browse information if you have an internet connection, data on your mobile phones. The history really improved and still improving. The question if you have finished watching the video "how will you shape the classroom of tomorrow?"

For me using these innovative technologies is a plus in education, but not necessarily. There are times that the class needs these technologies, it really depends on the situation, what the institution, school or universities where I'm in are imposing. The thing is I need to prepare myself for my future students, meaning I need to be constantly trained, and practiced to adapt the changes in educational technology and make use of these developments in educating my future students.

Moving forward while I'm browsing the internet, these quotation caught my eyes. See the picture below. It says "If you don't control your mind, someone else will." By John Allston

One topic that our professor tackled is how the society in the world conditions our mind. The hidden agenda is for the commercialism to spread and worked. To be specific to trade, to purchased any valuable things that they advertised, usually they focused on what is lacking from us. A strategic way of people to make business to generate money and to be able cycle it. We the consumers were being enticed to have those thingy in life. Well we must face it, that is the reality. We may be the consumer or the maker of all things no matter if it's a hardware or software.

That's all for today, thanks for reading. Sayonara!
